4 Ways to Build a Success Mindset with Carrie Knight

Last Updated on August 25, 2023 by The ZenMaid Team

Step 1. Develop an abundance mindset

If you havenโ€™t been living under a rock, you have probably heard words floating around like โ€œwellnessโ€, โ€œthoughtfulโ€, โ€œconsciousโ€, โ€œmindfulโ€, and โ€œmindsetโ€.

Every day we become a little more aware of how our thoughts affect our actionsโ€ฆ and itโ€™s all about perspective.

When it comes to the cleaning business there are two basic kinds of mindsets industry experts talk about: scarcity and abundance.

A scarcity mindset causes you to get nervous spending your money at all, even on things that could help you in the long-term

This sort of thinking pattern can keep you in a constant cycle of living paycheck to paycheck.

However, an abundance mindset can change things entirely!

To get to this place, you must be able and willing to think of others.

Maid service owners with an abundance mindset will be thoughtful with their business dealings, generous with their cleaners and kind to their most needy cleaning clients.

When you start to behave like you already have everything you need, you feel more able to invest in your own profitability.

Which brings us to the second thing you ought to do…

Step 2. Hire yourself a business coach

Bonus points for finding one that specializes in home cleaning businesses!

People who have a driven desire to succeed, continue to learn from others along the road to greatness.

However, having someone to guide you does not mean that they do it for you.

Since we are working on mindset, hiring a business coach should definitely be considered as an investment in the success of your home cleaning company.

A coach is there to keep you on track, to reach your goals, and to hold you accountable.

They bring to the table their experience along with knowledge of the latest in marketing strategy and business management.

Hire someone who you get along with, who you can learn from, who you believe in, and youโ€™ll be more likely to collaborate well together.

Step 3. Set weekly goals

When you have a large project to work on, such as improving a maid service business you own, donโ€™t bite off more than you can chew.

Overwhelming yourself can lead to either burning out or shutting down.

We know you want to enjoy every moment of your business as it grows, so pace yourself.

Set long term goals, such as โ€˜double revenue by the end of the fiscal yearโ€™ or โ€˜instate an Employee of the Year reward programโ€™.

Choose 2 or 3 long term goals that are most important to you and the progress of your own home cleaning business.

There are typically several little things you have to do over a time period in order to achieve big change.

So the next task is to set weekly goals for yourself that accomplish sub-items within the parameters of the long term goals.

For example, if you wanted to double revenue by the end of the financial year, you would need to:

  • Calculate your current numbers
  • Figure out your budget
  • Notate where all the money is going
  • Reverse engineer your numbers for profit
  • Improve advertising

…along with several other steps along the way.

If you look at all of these at once though, it gets a little daunting. This is why itโ€™s good to break it up.

Maybe you only do one task a week and that is ok. Just set them up in these smaller, more achievable goals to keep taking steps forward.

Step 4. Surround yourself with inspiring people

This is an all-over rule for life.

We are heavily influenced by those around us. Our family, our friends, and our co-workers all create their own gravitational pulls for our psyche.

Do your mental stability a favor and start making attempts to notice who you spend your time with.

What kind of people inspire you?

Who brings you down?

Make a small effort each day to actively choose who you allow into your inner circle.

Bring in folks who bring out the lovely, creative bits of your personality and edge them out if they seem to discourage your advancement.

Try to surround yourself and your maid service with people who inspire you to constantly evolve and improve.

Look for those who possess qualities you admire and would like to work on.

If you lack motivation, try to talk with more people who seem to have their own internal drive.

Spend time with the people who hustle and enjoy what they do – there are lots of them in the cleaning industry.

Be mindful and conscious about who you have close to you, and youโ€™ll find that day by day your maid service – and your life – will become a much less dramatic place.

The article above is based on a presentation that Carrie Knight gave at the 2019 Maid Summit.

About the presenter

Carrie Knight is a maid service owner and is also known asย The Cleaning Boss.

Carrie values growing her education as well as her business. She spends a lot of time studying ways to improve in marketing and other areas.

Previously in life, however, Carrie did struggle to get her cleaning business moving forward.

She struggled with the economy and even had employees stealing clients from her. It got so bad that she actually went flat broke.

That wouldnโ€™t be the end of her story though, she decided, so Carrie made three major changes to the ways she was conducting her work life.

This made such a difference in the way that her cleaning business progressed, so we want to share them with you.

This talk first aired at the 2019 Maid Service Success Summit.
