It\u2019s about the words you choose and how you present yourself to your audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A distinctive voice allows audiences to identify your brand without ever seeing your logo or hearing the name of your business. Think Nike or Apple. They make it look easy, but for most business owners, finding a unique voice that separates them from the competition is a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maid service owner and email marketing expert, Lisa Bauerle, struggled with her marketing voice until she read a book called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/DotCom-Secrets-Underground-Playbook-Growing\/dp\/1630474770\/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&amp;qid=1638829255&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DotCom Secrets<\/a>\u201d by Russell Brunson. She credits Brunson\u2019s book with revolutionizing how she communicates with her audience of thousands. Lisa encourages maid service owners to read Brunson\u2019s book for its wealth of marketing knowledge, especially the chapter about voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lisa gave 2021 Maid Summit attendees a breakdown of the four voice types that Brunson details in his book, as well as tips on how to use voice to captivate your audience. Do any of the voices described sound like yours \u2013 or what you\u2019d like your brand voice to sound like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can have a different voice for different types of communication or groups of people. It\u2019s also common to change your voice type as you gain knowledge and experience or as your business evolves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heading-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brand voice 1: The Leader<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The leader has experience and knowledge and wants to share her wisdom. She\u2019s been there, done that, and has lived through challenges and rewards. She guides others who want to follow the same path.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heading-3\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brand voice 2: The Adventurer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The adventurer is curious and doesn&#8217;t have all the answers. Adventurers say, \u201cI don&#8217;t know the answer to that. But I can find out for you and tell you everything that happened along the way.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heading-4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brand voice 3: The Reporter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reporter uncovers knowledge through research and conversations with experts, which she then shares with her audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heading-5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brand voice 4: The Reluctant Hero<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><p>The Reluctant Hero has no interest in the spotlight, but knows she must share her knowledge to help others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/get.zenmaid.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zenmaid.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/free-trial-banner-1.png\" alt=\"\"><\/a><\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"heading-6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 2: Build your attractive character<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/iYuD9G8sgAIG4ilgjqahW90aIfzULVKXmYAJzqgJR6TZXXUr9TqKmhKHspHxIrwc4s32uXWvjMPLVx4rwRKizTzMsR8T4kbJ7xgQH0mSElHmkvsVe9il5gpsuS-ETQUgrvGZdAse\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After you\u2019ve decided on a voice for your brand, it\u2019s time to build your attractive character.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAn attractive character is not someone who is extraordinarily good looking, although they might be. What I&#8217;m talking about here is a persona that attracts clients or customers, and helps you build your following,\u201d<\/em><em><br><\/em> Russell Brunson, Dotcom Secrets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An attractive character can be a persona or character type that represents your business or ideal client, or it can be an actual person who audiences instantly recognize as your brand\u2019s spokesperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heading-7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The elements of an attractive character<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An attractive character that resonates with your audience has four characteristics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>They have a backstory. <\/strong>Your character has a history that drives their actions and is relatable to your target audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>They talk in parables. <\/strong>Russell defines parables as \u201clittle stories, easy to remember, that illustrate a relevant point.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>They\u2019re open about their flaws and challenges.<\/strong> Nobody is perfect and flaws and challenges make characters believable \u2013\u2013 and make audiences feel seen.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>They inspire polarity in their audience. <\/strong>Strong characters stand for something and have a definite opinion. Polarity helps you build a fan base of people with shared beliefs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"heading-8\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 3: Put it all together<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, combine your voice and attractive character. Here\u2019s an example of what that looks like using the popular marketing persona: the tired, overworked working mother.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Lily is a 35-year-old professional living in the suburbs of Chicago. She has a spouse, two kids, a cat, and a dog. She lives in a two-story house behind a white picket fence. She&#8217;s got it all \u2013 or so it seems.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Lily works 60-hours a week and spends her weekends on housekeeping. Her husband isn\u2019t very helpful with the cleaning, the kids don\u2019t pick up their toys, and the dog likes to make a mess on the rug. And now, Lily\u2019s mother-in-law, who criticizes Lily about the cleanliness of her home, is coming for a visit.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This upcoming visit is what finally drives Lily to seek help. Lilly calls XYZ Cleaning because she considers it the best maid service in town.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this scenario, we have Lily\u2019s backstory, the parable or story about her critical mother-in-law, and the challenge presented by Lily\u2019 untidy family and pets. Lily\u2019s story is familiar and resonates with many people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The polarity ties it all together. In this case, the polarity comes from the idea that only XYZ Cleaning can solve Lily\u2019s problems. Because audiences relate to Lily, they become fans of XYZ Cleaning. Maybe XYZ Cleaning could help them, too.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind: The words and tone you choose to tell Lily\u2019s story will vary depending on the brand voice you\u2019ve chosen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"heading-9\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Be you! Find that voice that you identify with and run with it.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you want people to feel when they come across your marketing? What do you want them to think? As you develop your voice and attractive character, find what feels comfortable and real to you.
