Jobs are very competitive, and everyone is hiring! It can be hard to beat out big companies like Walmart or Marriott to hire rockstar employees. However, if you can spot and stop inefficient hiring processes, you can nip this problem in the bud.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to figure out how to optimize your hiring process. But, before we dive into how you can improve your hiring process to hire great employees, let\u2019s consider three obstacles that might be holding you back right now:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"heading-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You\u2019re good at your trade<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe you started your cleaning business because you\u2019re great at the trade. While this means you offer a great service, it\u2019s holding you back from stepping into the CEO role of your company.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"heading-3\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You always need to be out in the field<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you&#8217;re great at the trade and relying on your own labor, you\u2019re constantly in the field cleaning client homes. While you\u2019re busy working in the field every day, making time for hiring isn\u2019t going to be on your radar. However, there are two mindset shifts to help put hiring into perspective: think of applicants as leads and understand that your hiring process needs to be fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"heading-6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Your applicants are leads<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>How long do you take to follow up with potential clients? Twenty minutes? One hour? An afternoon? One day \u2013 max! You follow up quickly because you know the value that a new client brings. It\u2019s through this valuable lens that you need to view applicants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New applicants are leads for your business. Considering the amount of money a good employee brings to your business far exceeds how much one new client brings in. For example, depending on your market, a new client might bring in $3,500 to $4,500.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a cleaning technician brings in $55,000 to $60,000 based on the amount of work performed. That\u2019s a significant amount more than a new client!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you shift your mindset to see the value of a new applicant, you\u2019ll be keener to respond promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"heading-7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hire fast<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s debunk a hiring myth for a minute.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve probably heard the saying, \u201chire slow, fire faster,\u201d and we need to throw this mindset out, along with our old habits of hiring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s shift the saying to, \u201chire FAST, fire faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiring fast will bring in rockstar employees who can start earning you money. It might be scary to let someone new into your company, but when you consider the benefits of hiring fast, it\u2019s worth your time. Smaller businesses spend about $1,800 to bring on a new hire. If we hire the wrong person, it can be devastating to our business. This is why hiring the right people the first time is so important. Before you post a new job, check to make sure it includes some of these key instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What they need to submit and where to send it (example, \u201cPlease upload your resume below,\u201d or, \u201cSend your resume and cover letter to <a href=\"mailto:owner@yourcleaningbusiness.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">owner@yourcleaningbusiness.com<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accepting applications until a specified date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can expect to hear back from us within one business day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check your email for a link to schedule an interview with us<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After an interview is scheduled, send very clear details on the time, location, and length to expect the interview to be. Sometimes, it helps ease anxiety to tell an applicant what the dress code is ahead of time.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The more specific you are with your job posting and interview information, the better! Remember, you\u2019re competing with large companies that have a streamlined hiring process. They might have been offered a job elsewhere or just decided they weren\u2019t a good fit for your business. Unfortunately, rather than letting you know, they avoid confrontation. After improving your job postings, description, and follow-up speed, the next step is to implement regular interviews into your schedule.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A rockstar candidate will likely be applying for multiple positions.
